97 Bar Pechal Sagar-Rooney murder case report submission date
Journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney's murder case investigation report submission date postponed 97 times. The court on Sunday (April 09) asked the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit its investigation report by May 22.
RAB took March 5 as the 96th date to submit the investigation report of this case. On that day, the court ordered to submit the report by today. Earlier, two separate courts expressed their displeasure over the delay in completing the investigation of the case.
Sagar, news editor of private TV channel Machranga, and his wife Rooney, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were murdered in the early hours of February 11, 2012, at their rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.
Nowsher Alam Roman, the brother of Rooney who died in that incident, filed a murder case at the Sherebangla Nagar police station in the capital. First, the investigating officer of the case was an SI of that police station. After four days, the investigation of this sensational murder case was handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB).
After more than two months of investigation, DB failed to solve the mystery. Later, the investigation of the murder case was handed over to RAB on April 18 of the same year on the order of the High Court. Although a long time has passed since then, the agency has not yet submitted the investigation report of the case. Eight people have been arrested so far as suspects in the case.
