He said this at a press conference held at Bangladesh Bank Secretariat on Thursday (February 2) afternoon. Bangladesh Bank Director Saida Khanam was present at this time.

This spokesman of the central bank said that usually five products are in high demand during Ramadan. Bangladesh Bank is opening LC of all these products as required to keep the market normal.

He said, in Ramadan, edible oil, sugar, dates, onions and chickpeas are the five products that are used the most. Sufficient LCs were opened last January to ensure that there is no shortage of these products. These LC products will be available in the market before next Ramadan. The number of LCs is much higher than the LCs opened before Ramadan last year.

2 lakh 24 thousand 566 metric tons of chickpea LC was opened in January this year. Last year its amount was 2 lakh 65 thousand 596 metric tons. 42 thousand 562 metric tons of onion LC was opened in January, which was 36 thousand 225 metric tons last year.

29 thousand 481 metric tons of dates were opened in the month of January. In January 2022, dates LC was opened only 16 thousand 498 metric tons. These products will arrive before fasting. If any policy assistance is required for this, it will also be given.
