All schools, madrasahs and technical educational institutes across the country are going to start teaching through the new curriculum and textbooks in the 6th and 7th classes from the academic year 2023. Basically this textbook will be prepared in the light of National Curriculum Outline 2021. In order to implement this program, the 1st batch subject-specific training of teachers at the district level is starting today from Saturday. National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will conduct this six-day training at Dhaka Government Teachers Training College. NCTB nominated teachers have already been invited to participate in the training course.
NCTB-affiliates said that the new curriculum has a total of 10 subjects including religious education. The role of teachers is most important in implementing this. According to this curriculum, the learning outcomes of the students will be prepared through continuous assessment and examination of the class. However, there are some challenges. Many of those who are working as teachers in public and private schools are not subject-oriented teachers due to practical reasons. In fact, only teachers who are proficient in any subject will take classes in that subject, so far it was the rule. However, it is observed that sociology teachers spend enough time teaching English or agriculture teachers teach mathematics. Even if the new curriculum is to be implemented, there should be more than one teacher in 1 subject to teach different subjects. For this it is necessary to fill the shortage of teachers in educational institutions.

It is known that Bengali teachers will be taught in the new curriculum. English for English teachers, Mathematics for Arithmetic teachers, Science for Physics and Biology teachers. Geography teachers will teach history and social science. Again the subject for teachers trained in physics or ICT will be modern technology. Agriculture and business education teachers have to teach those two subjects. Physical education, home economics and biology teachers will have a new subject on body protection. Religious and moral education teachers will teach religious education. Art and Culture will be the new subject for Arts and Crafts teachers.
Educationist urged to ensure subject-based training of teachers to face the challenge. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury. He told our time, 'The problem is that there is already a shortage of teachers in rural educational institutions. There is no question of having a subject-oriented teacher. Different types of problems exist in government secondary schools. Government schools located in large cities and relatively privileged areas of the state, including Dhaka, have additional teachers. But the institutions in rural areas have fewer teachers than required. On top of that, teachers are not posted subject-wise in the capital's secondary schools. In these schools the teacher of one subject is constantly taking another subject. The teachers themselves are skeptical about how the new curriculum will be implemented here.
Officials of the Secondary Higher Education Training Department say that no teacher without training in the new curriculum will be able to take classes after December 31. The matter of teachers of Dhaka schools will be coordinated before December.
However, under the pilot project, only 62 schools are currently showing a sample of the implementation of the new curriculum. Although initially 100 primary and secondary schools were selected to implement the new curriculum. However, it was not possible due to various obstacles. Now only 62 schools are implementing this scheme. In this regard, Education Minister Dipu Moni recently said in an event in the capital that it is not easy to implement new curriculum in 33 thousand educational institutions. Our new curriculum has been developed. It is currently being piloted (experimental) in 6th class in 62 educational institutions. His feedback is very good. As easy as piloting in 62 educational institutions, it is not easy to implement it in 33 thousand educational institutions. Because it has various challenges.
According to NCTB sources, preparations have been made to train about four lakh teachers to implement the new curriculum. Because teachers have been conducting teaching for so long, now they have to conduct their learning activities in a completely different manner. There is no substitute for training to prepare teachers for that. As part of that preparation, all secondary level teachers are being brought under training. But this process is very time consuming. As a result, preparations are being made for longer than possible in teacher training.
