The first parliamentary session of the new year is sitting in the afternoon

The 21st session of the 11th National Parliament and the first session of the year has started. Speaker Dr. The session started at 4 pm on Thursday under the chairmanship of Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

Prime Minister and Parliament Leader Sheikh Hasina are present in the session.

On December 19, President Md. Abdul Hamid convened this session of the National Parliament with the power given in Clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution. This information was informed in a press release of the Parliament Secretariat that day.

• Before the start of the session, a working advisory committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the speaker at 3 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, opposition leaders and members of the committee were present in it.

At the beginning of the session, the speaker nominated the presidium. They are, Ramesh Chandra Sen (Thakurgaon-1), AKM Shajahan Kamal (Laxmipur-3), Yusuf Abdullah Haroon (Comilla-3), Kazi Feroz Rashid (Dhaka-6) and Salma Chowdhury (Female seat-34). He shall preside over the sittings of the Parliament in the absence of the Speaker or the Deputy Speaker.

Like other sessions amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Parliament meeting will follow the hygiene rules this time. Today's session may be shortened due to the recent increase in the number of corona infections and the spread of new strains of the virus Omicron.

• Preparations are being made to run this session for 10 or 12 working days from the Parliament Secretariat. Accordingly, the session is scheduled to continue till January 26. However, the speaker can extend the session if he wants. The extent depends on the Covid situation
