Three cricketers were punished for breaking the code of conduct in BPL. They are Sheikh Mehdi Hasan and Nicholas Pooran of Rangpur Riders and Mosaddek Hossain of Comilla Victorians.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the punishment to these three cricketers in a statement on Monday.
Mahmud's punishment is for the February 10 match, while the other three were punished for the play-off round match. BCB announced their punishment in a press release today. No one needed a formal hearing as all had accepted the punishment.
Section 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with the spirit of cricket, was breached by Mahmood. He did this in Mirpur's match against Fortune Barisal on February 10. Exactly what he did is not specified separately. However, a video of their coach Mahmood smoking in Khulna's dressing room at the end of the thrilling match that day—shown on television broadcast—went viral on social media.
This is the first time in the history of BCB that a director has been punished. Sujan, however, accepted the punishment given by the match referee. And so there is no need for any kind of hearing.
After winning the eliminator match against Fortune Barisal on February 12, Rangpur Riders all-rounder Sheikh Mehdi took off his helmet and hit it with the bat. He was fined 25 percent of the match fee in this incident. A demerit point is also given at the same time.
