Today (Wednesday) the country's election commission declared Bola the winner after three days of vote counting. The candidate of the country's ruling party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been elected as the new president of Nigeria. Presidential elections were held in the country on February 25.
The power of Nigeria's current ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), was further strengthened by Bola Ahmed becoming president.
Former President of Nigeria was Muhammadu Buhari of APC. During his tenure, Nigerians did not progress much. As a result, Bola is the new president of a troubled country.
Before becoming president, Bola was the governor of Nigeria's commercial city of Lagos. Election Commission of the country said that Bola Ahmed got 87 lakh 9 thousand votes. His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar, got 698,000 votes. And the third highest 61 lakh votes was obtained by Peter Obey.
Bola, 70, and Abubakar, 76, represent Nigeria's political elite. Peter Aby on the other hand is a reformist man. Peter was quite popular among the youth of the country. But despite that, he came third in the election.
Meanwhile, the entire process of Nigeria's presidential election this year was peaceful. However, due to the slow release of the election results, many are dissatisfied.
Although the election was peaceful, the country's main rival parties have already rejected the results citing rigging. However, the election commission of the country rejected this claim.
