It is unreasonable to increase the price of electricity in times of trouble, this time the price of everything will increase: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly condemned and protested the increase in electricity prices and said, 'The current government has taken this unreasonable decision to increase the electricity prices because it is not the elected government of the people. This decision to increase electricity prices is anti-people and ill-advised.
Fakhrul said these things in a statement signed by Syed Imran Saleh Prince, Acting Office Secretary of BNP on Friday (January 13). Every month the price of electricity will be increased periodically in the name of price adjustment, which is a 'retail trick' with the public.
Mirza Fakhrul again criticized the increase in electricity prices and said that due to the government's failure, corruption and wrong policies, there is a severe crisis in the country's economy and public life. When the price of rice, dal, oil, sugar, and other commodities have risen dramatically, when people's living expenses are increasing uncontrollably, when people are losing their jobs, and there is no employment, then this decision of the government is a death blow.
After the price increase at the wholesale level two months ago, this time the increase in the price of electricity at the retail and consumer level will increase the cost of living and the price of every thing, including the increase in the cost of production in agricultural irrigation, mill factories.'
In the statement, Fakhrul said that people have to pay the price of unlimited corruption and irregularities in the power sector. Quick rental, the owners of power generation plants are benefiting from public money in the name of capacity charges by keeping power without generating power. Due to corruption, wastage and mismanagement, the cost of power generation has increased and now people's pockets are being cut.
In the statement, Mirza Fakhrul demanded immediate cancellation of the government's anti-people decision to increase the price of electricity and said that political parties and alliances along with BNP have already announced the program of rallies and marches at metropolitan and upazila levels nationwide on January 16 to demand a 10-point demand from the public space program on January 11.
He called upon the public and the leaders, workers and supporters of BNP, organs and allied organizations to join the protest rally and march on January 16 and protest against this anti-people decision of the government.
