In Shariatpur, 6 ambulance passengers, including a woman, were killed in a truck collision in front of the toll plaza at the Jazira end of Padma Bridge. The identities of those killed in the accident were not immediately available.
The accident happened on Tuesday (January 17) around 3:30 p.m. Few details are yet known about the reason of the accident. It is said that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Jazira Upazila Health Complex.
It is known that gas cylinders were parked on the side of a road. Early in the morning, the ambulance hit the truck from behind.
According to local sources, the ambulance was at high speed before the accident. The ambulance driver fell asleep on the move, they say.
Sub Inspector of Padma Setu (South) Upazila Suraj Mia told the media that the ambulance was going to Dhaka with the patient and his relatives from Barisal. The ambulance lost control and hit the back of the truck while crossing the speed limit near the toll plaza of Padma Setu in Jajira. The ambulance rammed into the back of the truck. Six passengers of the ambulance were killed on the spot.
