After several rounds of these resignations were accepted, these seats were declared vacant recently. In view of this, on Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced that the by-elections for the 33 vacant seats of the National Assembly will be held on March 16.
Earlier on Friday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that by-elections to 33 constituencies will be held on March 16. These seats fell vacant after Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf accepted the resignations of PTI lawmakers.
According to a report by The Express Tribune, earlier this month, PTI leader Fawad Chowdhury had announced that party chief Imran Khan would contest all the vacant seats in the National Assembly.

Regarding Imran's decision, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in Lahore, after a meeting of core committee and parliamentary party members at Zaman Park, it was decided to field Imran Khan in all the vacant seats. The issue was discussed at length and it was decided that PTI would fully participate in the elections.
