At the same time retail price of electricity will be adjusted regularly from now on every month. Earlier, on January 8, a public hearing was held on the proposal of transmission agencies and distribution companies at Biam Auditorium in the capital. After the public hearing, the technical committee of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) recommended an increase of one taka 21 paisa per unit.

Meanwhile, on November 21 last year, the regulatory company BERC decided to increase the wholesale electricity price by 19.92 percent to reduce the subsidy burden. After this, the distribution companies started submitting requests to increase the prices at the retail level. In view of this, the public hearing is held after the evaluation in the technical committee.

Then came the decision to increase the price. Electricity rates were last increased in February 2020 at all levels. During that time, wholesale prices increased by 8.4 percent, while general consumer (retail) prices increased by 5.3 percent. As a result, the price of electricity per unit increased by 36 paisa to 7 13 paisa.
