DMP demands to see two cities of Dhaka, insisting on eviction of illegal police boxes, humanely

Most of the sidewalks in the capital are occupied by police boxes along with hawkers. A few have also been evicted. However, this box is required to provide uninterrupted service; Says the police. However, the City Corporation says that unauthorized police boxes cannot occupy the footpath.

On Tuesday, the North City Corporation went to demolish the police box built on the island at Asadgate in the capital. But it was no longer possible in the face of police obstruction.

• Mohammad Imrul, assistant commissioner of the zone, said that these boxes are necessary for uninterrupted traffic services. Along with the human aspects, the facilities of the members working on the road should also be considered.
  Dhaka South City Corporation has 217 km of existing footpaths, and 450 km of North. More than 30 police boxes have been placed on these sidewalks. However, the city authorities are not willing to give any concessions to prevent the movement of pedestrians.

Urban planner Dr. Aktar Mahmud said, coordination between RAJUK, City Corporation and Police should be done by resolving the humanitarian aspect.

The DMP and the two city corporations have held several rounds of discussions regarding the construction of boxes for the traffic police. However, the organizations could not reach any solution.
