In Pakistan, the death toll in a mosque blast in Peshawar Police Lines area has risen to 59. At least 157 people were injured in the explosion.

Mohammad Asim, the spokesperson of the local Lady Reading Hospital, said that rescue work was carried out till night for those who fell under the rubble. So far, the death toll is 59, while 157 are under treatment for injuries.

  • Commissioner of Peshawar Riaz Mehsud said, "As many people are buried under the rubble, the rescue operation is still going on inside the mosque. The injured are being given the best possible treatment.
    The blast area has been completely cordoned off. He also said that only ambulances have been allowed to enter there.
    After the explosion, the front roof of the main part of the mosque with a capacity of 200-250 worshipers collapsed, said Peshawar Police Officer Mohammad Ijaz Khan.
    He also said that the bodies of some policemen are still trapped under that roof.
    Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Imran Khan have condemned the incident. Prime Minister Shahbaz has directed his party leaders to donate blood for the injured.
