Criticism of Prime Minister: Smriti granted bail by Appellate Division

The Appellate Division has granted bail to Rajbari Mahila Dal leader Sonia Akhter Smriti (35) in a case filed against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for posting objectionable posts on Facebook. The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui gave this order on Sunday (January 15).

Senior advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared on behalf of Smriti in the court. Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morsed was for the state. First of all, the High Court adjourned the hearing of the bail granted to Rajbari Mahila Dal leader Sonia Akhter Smriti (35) in the case filed against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 28 for posting objectionable posts on Facebook.

Arifin Chowdhury, Member Secretary of District Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance and Science and Technology Affairs Secretary of Mizanpur Union Awami League filed a case against him in Rajbari Sadar Upazila on October 4 after Smriti made a comment on Facebook.

It is alleged in the case that Smriti's Facebook post on August 31 has insulted the Prime Minister. Then on the night of October 5, Smriti was arrested from a rented house in Baradanga 3 road, Sajjankanda, Rajbari town. Smriti's husband is a resident of Beradanga area number 3 of Rajbari municipality. Khokon is an expatriate.
