The ruling Awami League and its affiliated organizations will hold a rally in the capital on Saturday as part of BNP's 4-day march program.

Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League will hold a rally at 10:30 am in front of Amin Market in Uttara's Azampur area to protest against 'BNP's terror and anarchy' and later distribute winter clothes to the needy.

At the same time, Jubo League will hold a 'peace rally' in front of the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.

Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP will hold this program as part of the announced simultaneous program. The leaders and activists of the party will march from in front of Badda Hossain Market to Malibagh Abul Hotel at 2 pm. BNP Standing Committee members will participate in it. The general secretary of the party, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is scheduled to give a speech at the beginning of the march.

    General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has rejected the demand that Awami League will hold a rally to protest BNP's 4-day march.
  • He said that the rally is being held as part of the regular political activities of Awami League in view of the upcoming elections. Obaidul Quader said, Awami League president has ordered us to be cautious and peaceful.
    However, according to Awami League sources, this meeting was held mainly to get Awami League's response to BNP's program.

According to sources, a public meeting is scheduled to be held in front of the central office of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League on January 30.

Meanwhile, BNP leaders say that they have given instructions to the leaders and activists to ignore the incitement of the people of the ruling party.

Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convener Amanullah Aman told The Daily Star, 'The ruling party announced the program immediately after we announced our programme. This is not good political practice. We will carry out the program peacefully.'

He said that a letter has already been sent to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner regarding the procession.

It is not known whether BNP has received permission from the police.

Asked about public suffering due to the programme, he said, the program is being held on weekends and the marchers will not block the entire road.
