At least 21 people were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a bus and a car in Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The injured have been taken to a local hospital. Dawn's news.

The collision between two vehicles took place on the Karakoram highway in the Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday night (January 7) local time.
This incident took place after a collision between a bus and a car at midnight on Tuesday, in which both the vehicles fell into the ditch.

Sher Khan, a local police official, said the passenger bus was going to Rawalpindi from Ghizer, while the car was coming from the opposite direction. Among the dead, 16 passengers of the bus and 5 passengers of the car.

Karakoram Highway

  • Confirming the number of casualties, police said the passenger bus was traveling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi via the Karakoram highway. On the way, the bus had a head-on collision with a private car coming from the opposite direction in Shitial area. The two cars fell into the ditch. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and rescued the injured and sent the dead to the hospital.

  • At the time of the accident, the information about the exact number of passengers in the bus is being collected, at the same time, efforts are being made to know the number of passengers in the car, said the police officer.
    Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his grief over the incident. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. Besides, the concerned have been instructed to ensure that the injured get proper treatment.

According to a World Health Organization report, 27,000 people died in road accidents in Pakistan in 2018.
