Who is the presidential candidate will be known on Tuesday

Awami League Parliamentary Party Secretary and Parliament Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury (Liton Chowdhury) told Ittefaq on Thursday evening, 'Tuesday's parliamentary party meeting may finalize the presidential nomination. Apart from presidential nominations, contemporary political issues will also be discussed for good reason. The Prime Minister will also give the necessary guidance to the party parliamentarians in view of the upcoming national elections.

Awami League politicians said that most of the names that are being discussed for the post of president are based on speculation. In fact, party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will select one for the post of president. It is only a formality to finalize the proposal after discussion on his selected proposal in the parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.

In February 2018, he was elected president in the second round without contest. Abdul Hamid. Then he took oath as the president for the second term on April 24 of the same year. Being a two-term president, he is not allowed to run again as per the constitution. His term ends on April 23. However, the Constitution states that if the post of President becomes vacant due to the expiry of the term, an election shall be held to fill the vacant post within 90 to 60 days before the date of expiry of the term.

That is, there is a constitutional obligation to elect a new president by February 23. Accordingly, the Election Commission (EC) has already announced the schedule for the presidential elections. According to the schedule, the country's 22nd presidential election will be held on February 19. Interested candidates can submit nomination papers on February 12. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till February 14 after February 13 scrutiny.

After 1991, presidential elections have never required a vote in the era of parliamentary democracy. The candidate of the ruling party has always been unopposed for the presidency. Now there is no activity or discussion of presidential candidates from other parties represented in the parliament around the new presidential election.

In that case single candidate is more likely. As a result, the candidate of the ruling Awami League will be the next president, it can be said for sure. In this situation, voting will not be necessary. Even, who will be the next resident of Banga Bhavan - which is supposed to be confirmed only after the scrutiny of nominations on February 13, can actually be known on Tuesday. As a result, all eyes are on the candidate of the ruling Awami League.

The constitution of Awami League does not say anything clearly about determining the party candidate for the post of President. But the party has a parliamentary board. The responsibility of this board is to nominate candidates for all national level elections including the National Assembly. However, before this, Awami League has finalized the nomination of the candidate for the post of the president in the meeting of the parliamentary party consisting of the party parliamentarians.

On the other hand, who is getting the nomination of Awami League for the post of President - there is a multifaceted discussion and analysis going on in the political arena. In the political arena including the Awami League and in the media, the names of the two people who have been discussed the most for the new presidency for the past few days are the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury and Prime Minister's economic adviser. Mosiur Rahman.

Shirin Sharmin Member of Parliament among them, Dr. Monsieur is not a Member of Parliament. Dr. Monsiur is also the chairman of Awami League's economic affairs sub-committee, apart from the prime minister's economic advisor. If Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury becomes the President, who will be the new Speaker of the Parliament - there is no end of speculation.
