The Bangladesh Fire Service said in a press release that rescue workers led by the army have so far recovered the bodies of 19 people, including the four, and rescued one alive. Along with the Bangladesh team, rescuers from other countries around the world are working there.

In the morning of February 6, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck the southern city of Gaziantep in Turkey. A few hours later, another 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck just 100 km to the north. Many cities in Turkey-Syria were turned into ruins. More than 41,000 people have died so far in the two countries.

The joint rescue team of Bangladesh left Dhaka for Turkey on the night of February 8 to participate in the rescue operation like other countries in the world. The team arrived at the country's Adana Military Air Base at 10:15 on Thursday the next day. From there, the rescue team reached Adiaman city and started search and rescue operations.

The 60-member team includes 12 fire service personnel as well as 24 army personnel and 10 doctors. In addition, 11 tons of relief goods were sent to Syria on the night of February 10. These include tents, blankets, sweaters, dry food and medicine.

Bangladesh has observed a day of national mourning due to the massive loss of life in one of the deadliest earthquakes of this century.
