The editor of Prothom Alo has sought anticipatory bail in the High Court
Dainik Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman has sought anticipatory bail in the High Court in the Digital Security Act case filed at Ramna police station.
Lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar said that the anticipatory bail application was made on Sunday (April 2) morning. Advocate Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek) filed the case on the night of March 29.
In this case, Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman, associate cameraman and unknown persons have also been accused. Prothom Alo's own reporter Shamsuzzaman is in jail in the case.
The plaintiff in the case complained that he was at the main gate of Shilpakala Academy at 9 pm on March 26 while browsing Facebook and saw a screenshot of news from the online version of Dainik Prothom Alo.
As can be seen in the screenshot, Prothom Alo reporter Shamsuzzaman made a report mentioning the statement of a day laborer named Zakir Hossain. The title of the report - What to do with freedom if you do not have rice in your stomach. When you go to the market, you sweat. We want fish, meat and freedom of choice.
Written below is Zakir Hossain, day laborer, Savar. Plaintiff was surprised to see this news, said the affidavit.
In the statement, the plaintiff also said that later on March 28 at around 10 pm, a report by private TV channel 71 TV reporter Farzana Roopa was seen on his mobile phone. He came to know from the report that after seeing the report mentioned in the online version of Prothom Alo, Farzana Rupa started investigating the incident at the field level. In the search, he went to the Savar memorial area and found the child named Zakir in the report.
He found the child of the report by showing local people the picture of the child named Zakir, which appeared on Prothom Alo online. Later go to the child's house. There he found out that the child's name was not Zakir, but Sabuj. Seven years old, he is in first grade.
When the child was shown the Prothom Alo report and his picture, he said that on Independence Day, a man introduced himself as a Prothom Alo journalist and paid him 10 taka to take a picture on the camera. The man did not ask the child his name or anything and he did not make a statement.
Plaintiff said, I was horrified to see this report of Farzana Roopa and I remember that in 1974, a mentally deranged woman named Basanti of Kurigram was photographed wearing net and published in the newspaper to spread the fear of famine in the public mind. As a result unstable situation was created in the country. Remembering this, I am alarmed that Prothom Alo has deliberately published a false and anti-state report in their online version on the great Independence Day, which was achieved in exchange for the honor of 3 million martyrs and 2 million mothers and sisters.
He said, "I also understand that under the instructions and plans of the editor of Prothom Alo, the reporter tried to mislead and degrade the spirit of the Liberation War by making false reports with his anonymous cameramen and printing associates. Due to this, dissatisfaction has arisen in the public mind.
Earlier on Wednesday (March 29), Syed Md filed another case against Shamsuzzaman under the Digital Security Act at Tejgaon police station of the capital, accusing him of publishing news with 'false and fabricated' information. A man named Gholam Kibria.
