Russia thanks Bangladesh for abstaining from voting
Bangladesh did not vote on the resolution brought to the UN General Assembly calling on Russia to leave Ukraine to end the war. Russia thanked Bangladesh for abstaining from voting.
"Thanks to Bangladesh for abstaining," the Russian embassy said in a tweet late Friday night.
Earlier, on Thursday night, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled 'Establishment of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles inherent in the principles of the United Nations'. 141 voted in favor, seven against and 32 countries abstained from voting.
Among the eight South Asian countries, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka abstained. On the other hand Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives voted in favour.
Eight countries from the 10-member ASEAN voted in favour. Vietnam and Lao PDR abstained from voting. At the same time, China also abstained from voting.
Belarus, Syria, North Korea, Mali, Eritrea and Russia voted against the resolution.
Earlier, Bangladesh voted in favor of two of the five resolutions on the Ukraine war and abstained on three.
