Nikki Haley challenged in the US presidential election
Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has announced that her party will seek the Republican Party's nomination to run for the US presidency.
The 51-year-old daughter of immigrant parents from Punjab, India released a video saying it was time for a new generation to lead.
It's a clear nod to his one-time leader, Donald Trump. Mr. Trump appointed him as US ambassador to the United Nations six years ago.
"Now is not the time to hold back. Now is the time for a strong and proud America," he said, posting a campaign video on Twitter.
Nikki Haley is the second major Republican candidate to seek the party's endorsement for the presidency after her former recruiter Donald Trump launched his nomination effort last November.
On the other hand, he is the third Indian-American to seek the presidency.
