More than 40 people have been killed in clashes between gunmen and law enforcement in Nigeria. The clash took place in the country's Kastina state on Thursday (February 2) local time.

The clash took place just days before the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in the country.

  • Al-Jazeera reported on Saturday, citing Kastina police spokesman Gumbo Issah, that an armed gang known locally as Daku attacked the village of Bakori and opened fire on the villagers. More than 40 people were killed. After that they looted the cattle of the village and fled into the forest before escaping.

However, two security sources claimed that at least 50 people died in this clash. The administration says that the dead bodies were recovered from the bush last Friday after the clash. The injured were rescued and taken to Kangra Hospital in the state.
