Government change experiment in Pakistan proved a failure: Imran Khan
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan said that the current leadership of the country's army has realized that the experiment of changing the government has failed. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and PTI chairman said this in an interview given to American media Voice of America.
He said, "I am sure, the new leadership of the army has realized that the experiment of regime change (change of power) has been proved wrong."
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan lost power in a no-confidence vote in April last year. Since then, he was blaming the then Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for ousting him from power. He also alleged that the United States is behind his removal.
The PTI chief emphasized that an elected government must have authority as well as responsibility. Otherwise a country's system will fail (all management fails). This power and authority was given to him by the votes of the people. Power and authority cannot be separated. No arrangement will work if the two things are separate.
He said, 'If the authority is in the hands of the army chief, and if the responsibility is in the hands of the prime minister, then no system will work.'
In response to a question like how was the relationship with the army when he was the prime minister, Imran Khan said that all the rules of the Pakistan army depend on one person. "Army (Pakistan) refers to a single person, he is the army chief. So the relationship between the army and the civil government depends on a single individual.'
