Islam Uddin, a flower farmer of Ganna Union of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila, said that around 2,500 flower growers of our union had extensive preparations for this day. Our flowers are the best in the country. Because by nature our flower petals are thicker, better in shape and smell. That's why our flowers stay fresh for at least 48 hours more than flowers from other districts. Therefore, the demand for these flowers is also high throughout the country.

Sugarcane market flower growers and traders said that flowers worth 50-60 lakh rupees have been sold in each of the last 3 days.

According to the sources of Jhenaidah Agricultural Extension Directorate, flowers have been cultivated in the entire district this year on 254 hectares of land. Last year, flowers were cultivated on 68 hectares of land.

Jamir Hossain, General President of Jhenaidah Flower Growers Cooperative Association, said that the farmers have got good price of flowers this year. In December and in this month, about hundred crores worth of flowers are spreading across the country from Jhenaidah. Over 8 crores of rupees have been traded on February 1st alone.

He also said that this flower is spreading all over Bangladesh every day from about 10 markets of Kaliganj, Kotchandpur, Maheshpur and Sadar upazilas of the district.

Jhenaidah District Directorate of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director (DD) Azgar Ali said that flowers have now become a very profitable business. Among the 10 districts of Khulna, Jhenaidah is the most cultivated marigold flower. Apart from this, cultivation of all types of flowers including roses, rosary, gerbera, lilium and various types of stick flowers and chrysanthemums is increasing day by day. Technical assistance is being given to the farmers along with training to get better yield. The demand for flowers has increased tremendously since December.
