Highlighting the various steps taken by the government to expand rail connectivity, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that Dhaka metropolis will witness a different rail connectivity by 2030 to ease traffic congestion.

He said this while inaugurating the operation of trains from Ruppur, Shasidal and Joydevpur stations on the newly constructed 69.20 km railway line under three projects on Thursday (February 09) through a video conference from Gana Bhavan.

The Prime Minister connected with the three railway stations by waving the green flag, blowing the whistle and inaugurating the train movement in the video conference.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that by 2030, a different environment of rail connectivity will be created in Dhaka city itself. That would save human traffic and our oil costs—a lot. Dhaka city will also be free from traffic jams. That is how we are implementing our plans.

He said, we have already inaugurated the metro rail. Which will later be extended from Uttara to Kamalapur railway station. In case of metro rail, we are also going underground. The construction work of subway under MRT Line-1 has also been inaugurated.

Sheikh Hasina said that through the implementation of all the projects in the railway sector, a new horizon will be initiated in the domestic and inter-country railway communication system and a revolutionary change will be achieved in the railway services.

Referring to some mega projects taken up for the expansion of rail communication, he said that several mega projects are being implemented by his government with the aim of increasing and expanding the internal and regional rail communication of the country. The construction of railway from Dhaka to Jessore's Rupdia and Singia through Padma Bridge is progressing rapidly. Two fasttrack projects are being implemented rapidly to establish rail connectivity with the tourist city of Cox's Bazar.

The Prime Minister said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Railway Bridge, Khulna-Mongla Broad Gauge Railway Line, Akhaura-Laksam Dual Gauge Double Line, Dhaka-Tongi Third and Fourth Dual Gauge Line and Tongi-Joidebpur Dual Gauge Double Line are being constructed over Yamuna River.

He said, our government is constructing Dhaka-Narayanganj dual gauge line, Bhanga-Barisal-Paira Bandar railway line, Joydevpur-Ishwardi dual gauge double-line, Khulna-Darshana dual-gauge double-line, Sirajganj-Bogra dual-gauge railway line. Besides, the work of Jaydevpur-Mymensingh-Jamalpur Dual Gauge Double-Line, Rooppur Nuclear Station Rail-Link, Akhaura-Agartala Rail Line, Dhirashram ICD project is in progress.

The Prime Minister said that his government is laying new railway lines to establish a rail communication network across the country.

The Prime Minister said that in the last 14 years, his government has constructed 650 km of new railway lines, converted 280 km of meter gauge to dual gauge and rehabilitated and reconstructed 1,297 km of lines. 126 new station buildings and 223 station buildings rehabilitated. Besides, 732 new railway bridges, 774 railway bridges rehabilitation-reconstruction and 50 broad gauge and 50 meter gauge passenger coaches have been rehabilitated.

He said, we have procured 106 locomotives, 20 sets of DEMUs, 535 passenger carriages and 516 freight wagons. Developed and modernized signaling system at 130 stations. A total of 142 new trains including Mithali Express have been launched on 44 new and extended routes.
