9 kg gold bars recovered during BGB operation in Jessore
A private car was seized with 60 gold bars weighing about 9 kg while being smuggled into India in a joint operation in Jessore. Two battalions of BGB recovered the gold bars from Rajarhat area near the city on Tuesday (February 19).
Gold worth around Tk 9 crore has been recovered in an anti-smuggling operation by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in Jessore. Jessore-49 and Khulna-21 BGB recovered the gold yesterday morning on Tuesday morning. BGB confirmed this in a press conference at night.
Jessore 49 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Shahed Minhaj Chiddiki said in a press conference that on Tuesday, based on secret information, BGB came to know that a white colored private car was coming from Dhaka to Jessore for the purpose of smuggling a shipment of gold to India. The raid was conducted based on that information.
During the operation, the vehicle was searched and 60 gold bars weighing 8 kg 974 grams were recovered, the market value of which is 8 crore 97 lakh 40 thousand taka. The recovered gold will be handed over to the Treasury and the private car to Jessore Kotwali Police Station.
He further informed that these two battalions under Khulna sector are always active in the prevention of smuggling and continuous efforts are being made to bring down the quota of gold smuggling to zero.
Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) has recovered 93 kg 347 grams of gold in one year, the value of which is 80 crore 67 lakh 94 thousand 200 taka. Similarly, 21 BGB also recovered 70 kg of gold in various operations in the last one year. These two battalions of Khulna sector recovered a total of 163 kg of gold.
