Italy rescued more than 1 thousand migrants floating in the sea
Italy has rescued more than 1,000 migrants adrift in the Mediterranean Sea
Al Jazeera reported this information with reference to the country's coast guard. These migrants were floating unsafely in overcrowded boats in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Coast Guard started their rescue operation from Friday. Two weeks ago, 76 migrants died when a boat capsized off the coast of Italy.
Italy's coast guard said they saw three boats off the coast and started a rescue operation. One of these boats was off the coast of the southern Calabrian town of Crotone. The other two were also in the surrounding area.
According to information provided by the Coast Guard, 487 people were rescued from the first boat on Saturday morning and brought to Crotone port. Another rescue operation brought 500 migrants ashore.
Earlier, the Italian Coast Guard said that more than 1,000 migrants floating in different boats in the sea are in danger. In a statement, the country's army said more than a thousand people were in danger. Efforts are underway to rescue them.
