After January 6, excitement spread in the municipal council around the swearing in of 10 aldermen appointed by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Ignoring protests from UP councillors, returning officer and BJP councilor Yatartha Sharma, appointed by Saxena, called the aldermen to take oath on Tuesday, causing tension in the meeting.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had earlier announced 10 as nominated members. It is said that he is doing this work to give advantage to BJP. UP councilors blocked Uttam's call to take the oath of office on Friday. A large number of police and civil defense personnel were deployed to prevent the unrest, but the situation could not be brought under control. The mayor's election phase was lost until the end.
