Turkish Vice President Fuat Aktai said on Saturday (February 11) local time that the death toll in Turkey had risen to 24,617, surpassing the country's previous earthquake death toll. The rest were killed in neighboring Syria.

However, six days after the earthquake struck, life is still alive under the rubble. A total of 9 people were rescued alive on Saturday (February 11). A family of five was rescued together 129 hours after the last earthquake.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has said that 5.3 million people are at risk of becoming refugees in Syria due to the earthquake. In addition, about 9 lakh people in the two countries need food assistance on an urgent basis.

Two strong earthquakes hit Turkey-Syria on Monday (February 6). Dawn struck at 4:17 am. Its origin was near the city of Gaziantep on the Syrian border. The magnitude of this earthquake was 7.8 on the Richter scale. The second struck around noon. Its magnitude was 7.6 on the Richter scale.
