Highlighting the history of the 1969 mass uprising, Abdul Hamid said, January 24, 1969 is a historic day in Bangladesh's independence and democratic progress.

This day has been remembered in the history of our freedom struggle and freedom movement as the People's Uprising Day. He paid deep respect to the memory of those who were martyred in the independence movement of the state.

He said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, announced 6 points in 1966 to free the Bengali nation from Pakistani rule, exploitation and deprivation. Bengali Sanad was 6 points including autonomy. After the 6-point declaration, the independence movement intensified and spread everywhere in East Bengal. Along with Awami League, the joint movement of various political parties and student organizations accelerated the mass movement.

Abdul Hamid said that the former dictator filed the Agartala conspiracy case to thwart this movement. On January 24, 1969, politicians-students-teachers-people took out a procession to demand the release of Bangabandhu and other accused and the withdrawal of military rule. Matiur Rahman, a class 9 student of Navkumar Institute School, was martyred by police firing during the procession.

Inspired by the spirit of the popular uprising of 1969, the President urged everyone to play their part in building a healthy Bangladesh.
