Experts said that it is normal to have tears in the eyes while cutting onions. Because onion cells contain amino acid sulfoxide. which turns into sulfonic acid on cutting. Sulfonic acid is a type of organosulfur compound. which the onion allinase enzyme converts propanethiol to sulfur oxide.

This compound comes into contact with aqueous humor. It then turns into sulfuric acid. From which the eyes feel burning. Water is released from the lacrimal gland immediately after irritation. Because when sulfuric acid gets into the eyes, the eyes secrete excess water to remove it. And as a result of which tears are created. These are reflex tears.

• So it is normal to cry while cutting onions. But if we are a little careful we can get rid of this crying. Let's know the easy ways.

• First, cut off the root part and the first layer of the onion. Because, most of the enzymes are in this root and upper layer.

• Refrigerate the onion for an hour before cutting. You will see that the eyes will not burn at all.

• If you want to chop onion, first peel the dry onion and soak it in water. Wash off thoroughly after fifteen minutes.

• Use a sharp knife or blade while cutting. The cells will be less damaged.
