Decision on EVM in five cities may come today
Meeting on the election of five city corporations of the country (Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet)
It will be held today (April 03). The meeting is scheduled to be held in the meeting room of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat at around 10:30 am on Monday.
EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.
The agenda of the meeting includes, five city corporation elections, use of EVMs in parliamentary elections, guidelines for journalists and mass media workers, approval of contract with Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) and miscellaneous.
EC officials said that among the five cities, Gazipur City may be elected first. In this case, the election day can be finalized in Monday's meeting.
Meanwhile, the EC has sought money from the government for repairing EVMs. The future of using EVMs in parliamentary elections depends on the availability of funds as per the demand of the EC. Today's meeting may also decide on this matter.
