The Church of England has announced that same-sex couples will receive God's blessing when they go to church, but will not be allowed to marry there. After five years of debate, the British Church made this announcement through a statement.
After the announcement, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said the decision was made in the public good. Many may find it acceptable, while most may think it is not enough.

He also said the decision reflected the Church of England's diversity of views on sexual relations and marriage. I enjoy that variety. I welcome the way this decision is implemented in our church.
According to Bloomberg reports, the bishops of the church met last Tuesday to finalize recommendations on same-sex marriage and sexuality. They will discuss the proposals raised in the meeting in detail from February 6 to 9. They will then be taken to the General Synod, the church's legislative body.

But before that, the church issued a 'no' to same-sex marriage. However, same-sex couples can go to church and participate in other ceremonies, including prayers.
Archbishop Justin Welby said, "I need to say that the Church of England is universally and unequivocally welcoming to all Christians and the LGBTQ+ community. Because the church is a precious part of the body of Jesus Christ.
Note that in 2013, same-sex marriage was legal in England and Wales. But the Church of England did not do this until recently. However, the Anglican Church in Wales has allowed same-sex marriages and blessings since last September.
