EU wants to send observers to national elections
The European Union (EU) wants to send observers to the upcoming twelfth parliamentary elections. The Election Commission is positive about this. We feel there is scope for further discussions on technical and managerial issues in the work and progress of the Election Commission. EU's Head of Delegation Charles Whiteley made such a comment to the journalists after the meeting with the Election Commission (EC) at the Agargaon election building on Wednesday (January 18).

CEC said, 'I am still not sure about EVM. Because, will EVM be available at all? No decision has been taken on how many EVMs can be used in the elections.'

The project to buy Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) did not come up in the National Economic Council Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting on Tuesday (January 17). In this regard, Planning Minister MA Mannan said, 'The project of buying EVMs was not in our list. The Prime Minister did not even want to know about it. But the EVM project is under process.'
When asked whether polling in 150 seats in the next national election will be held through EVA, the Planning Minister told reporters that the National Election Board will think about it.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) finalized a project proposal worth Rs 8,711 crore to buy two lakh more EVMs. However, the project has not yet been approved. The Ministry of Planning is analyzing the cost of the project.
