A Bangladeshi passenger named Shab Sheikh (as per death certificate) died of heart attack on a flight from Dubai to Dhaka. The incident took place on Saturday (February 18) on FZ 523 flight of 'Fly Dubai' airlines.

In a statement given to Khaleej Times, Fly Dubai Airlines spokesperson said, "Deep condolences to the family of Shab Sheikh (59) who died of a heart attack on the way. After hearing about his illness we landed the flight at Karachi airport in Pakistan. But it was not possible to save the seriously ill passenger.

Permission to land

  • SmartWings Fly, a Czech Republic airline, operates flight FZ523 to Dubai. According to the Pakistani media Shama TV, according to officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan, a passenger on the Fly Dubai flight from Dubai to Dhaka fell ill. Later the captain of the flight contacted the air traffic controller at Karachi airport and sought permission for an emergency landing.
    Earlier this month, an Emirates flight en route from Sydney to Dubai landed in Perth, Australia due to a medical emergency. In another incident, a Brussels-bound flight of the same airline landed in the Iraqi city of Erbil due to a mid-air medical emergency.

In October 2022, flydubai signed an agreement with Czech-Republic-based airline Smart Wings. Under the agreement, flydubai leased four state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Smart Wings to operate flights on selected routes including Chittagong, Dhaka, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Karachi, Multan, Muscat and Sialkot in Pakistan.
