Apple co-founder, Apple Park visionary Steve Jobs wanted to create an office that seemingly didn't feel like an office. It becomes a wonderful combination of nature, architecture and technology.

The construction of the campus was announced in 2006 but it took eight years for various approvals and legal work. Construction of Apple Park, which began in late 2013, was completed in 2017. This huge campus is built on 176 acres of land. The entire campus cost the company $5 billion to build. Keeping the environment in mind, about 7000 trees of various species have been planted in 80 percent of the places. Various buildings on campus have been designed to resemble iPhone hardware. From Siri to the bathroom, Apple's hardware is everywhere. The main building is named The Ring because of its circular appearance.

the details

  • Another construction company was responsible for building the building. Later, for some unknown reason, the company changed.
  • It took almost two years to make the replica.
  • It is also called 'Spaceship' for the design.
  • About 75% of the work is done with solar power.
  • The building does not reflect any unwanted light.
  • It took about a year and a half to make the door handle of the building.
  • 14 thousand 20 cars can be parked together.

There are more than 1 thousand bicycles to go from one end of this huge campus to another.

Steve Jobs' dream project is Apple Park

Apple Park is the newly built headquarters of US-based technology company Apple. The new campus is located in Cupertino, California. It is one mile from the first campus known as Infinite Loop.

This campus is located in an area of about 175 acres. Round and four-storied, this building is surrounded by greenery.

The new campus was announced in 2006 by former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Basically, Steve Jobs worked with this Apple campus for the last two years of his life. Four months before his death, he submitted details of the building to the Cupertino City Council for approval. In 2009, he entrusted this project to world famous architect Norman Foster.

Jony Ive, head of Apple's design team and chief designer since Steve's tenure. Jony Ive has designed numerous Apple products so far. Basically, he is responsible for looking after the 'visual aesthetics' of Apple products. He designed Apple Park behind the scenes.

Behind the scenes is Jony Ive

Jony Ive, head of Apple's design team and chief designer since Steve's tenure. Jony Ive has designed numerous Apple products so far. Basically, he is responsible for looking after the 'visual aesthetics' of Apple products. From behind the scenes, Apple Park was largely designed by him. He says, 'We are passionate about the way our products are designed and what will happen in their features; The same design, engineering creativity was kept in mind while creating this new campus of ours.

Touch of green and pure water

Around 80% of the entire Apple campus is surrounded by greenery. About 9 thousand drought resistant trees have been planted. Stanford University has taken help for this. In the middle of the main building, the main garden is planted with different varieties of apple trees. There are also date and olive, apricot orchards. There is a huge pond in the garden in the middle. Since clean water is a problem throughout California, the campus will require approximately 157,000 gallons of water per day to operate fully. So the water used here is purified and used.

The world's largest curved glass structure

The centerpiece of the entire campus is a central four-story circular building, with an office space of about 2.8 million square feet or two hundred and sixty thousand square meters. The radius is about a mile. What is made of this huge building? Its walls are made only of glass. Glass is also used in the partition inside it. Engineers said it is the world's largest curved glass structure. However, the employees of the company also reported some of its difficulties. The glass walls are in such a way that many times when walking around you don't realize there are any walls. And so many workers immersed in work bumped into this wall while walking. Only wood is used for furniture. Large blocks of stone and wood have been used for the floor and ceiling. 4 thousand 300 volumes have been used. You will be surprised to hear that the weight of some huge blocks is about 27 tons.

5 billion USD campus

Apple spent 5 billion dollars to build this new campus. What is there in the 500 crore campus? Let's see that this building has a fitness center covering 100,000 square feet, which can be used by about 20,000 people simultaneously. But that is only for office people. The research and development center covers 3 lakh square feet or 28 thousand square meters. There are about two miles of roads for workers to walk around. 83 thousand square feet of meeting space. There are smart parking lounges to park around 11,000 cars simultaneously. Ensured 100% renewable energy use.

There are seven cafes. Three thousand people can have breakfast at the same time in the biggest cafe. Surrounded by natural beauty, these cafes are illuminated by sunlight. There is a canteen for lunch. There are 500 eco-friendly tables with specially designed offices to accommodate 15,000 people for lunch.

The fittings of this huge building have been designed in accordance with the hardware designs of the iPhone. From the bathrooms to the elevators in Apple's new building, Apple's landmark hardware designs are used everywhere. Even the elevator buttons are designed to resemble the iPhone's home button. High quality polished concrete has been used to make the ceiling panels of the building. Fine quality is also controlled.

9 months without AC

Apple Park buildings are naturally ventilated. As a result, it does not require the use of cooling devices or heating devices. There is no need to run AC in this building for about 9 months of the year. However, the manufacturing company has invented some new technologies for this.

In this campus, instead of separate tables, everyone works around a large table. This arrangement is to increase his attitude of sincerity and cooperation.

Use of renewable energy

In recent years, the Apple company has taken steps to use renewable energy. Apple Park is no exception. At an event in March 2016, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, 'Steve's vision for Apple has transcended his time with us. Steve Jobs wanted Apple Park to be a center of innovation for generations to come. We have built the world's most energy efficient building and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy.'

There is only one power generation plant for the Apple campus, which runs on natural gas or other environmentally friendly fuels. The entire roof of the circular main building is covered with solar panels. 17 MW electricity is generated from here. Around 300 electric car charging stations have been installed to ensure 100% renewable energy use.
