The country needs more than twice as many nurses: Health Minister
Minister of Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek said that more nurses will be appointed as per the demand in the country. He said, more than double the number of nurses in the country, we have recruited 34,000 in the last ten years.
He said these things after visiting the 27th comprehensive (licensing) examination center of Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery, Diploma in Midwifery and BSc in Nursing courses at Vikarunnisa School and College in the capital on Friday (March 31) morning.
The minister said that a doctor only sees a patient, and nurses provide round-the-clock care. Nurses have many roles in health care. We plan to create specialized nurses on various subjects. By doing this, nursing services will go a long way. But nurses need to serve patients with more sincerity.
Zahid Malek said that there is a lot of demand for Bangladeshi nurses abroad, we also want our nurses to bring honor to Bangladesh by serving in different countries. For this reason, arrangements should be made to send them abroad under specialized training.
The minister said that 85 thousand nurses are currently working in the country. Of these, 45 thousand are government, and the rest are private. There are 34 thousand seats in 350 institutes of nurses in the country.
Regarding the institutional practice of doctors, the health minister said that there are no doctors after two o'clock in general government hospitals. But after two o'clock there are more patients in the hospital. Therefore we have started institutional chamber activities in hospitals. The time a doctor would give outside, he will give here. By doing this, the patients who are admitted in the hospital will also be able to receive services.
