Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf has died at the age of 79 in a Dubai hospital after a long illness. The army said this on Sunday.

According to the Pakistani press Geo News, Pervez Musharraf was admitted to the 'American Hospital' in the United Arab Emirates for the past few weeks. He has been sick for a long time. He died there on Sunday.

Pervez Musharraf left Pakistan for medical treatment in March 2016. He has not returned to the country in the last 7 years.

Birth of Musharraf 

  • Pervez Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 in Delhi, then British India. On April 19, 1961, he received his commission from the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul. In 1998, he got the rank of General and took over as the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.

Musharraf took power in a bloodless coup in 1999 after then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tried to fire him as army chief. During his more than seven years in power, there were at least three assassination attempts on him.
Musharraf maintained a streak of economic growth in Pakistan during his tenure.
