Controversy encourages people to think critically: Education Minister
Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni says, any type of debate competition teaches people to think and inspires critical thinking.
He said this at the 15th debate festival organized by National Debate Federation Bangladesh (NDFBD) at Shishu Academy in the capital today. Khabar Bass Education Minister said, Debate creates the ability to consider a subject in different dimensions. Reasoning is sharpened, proficiency is developed in the use of standard language.
He said that efforts are being made to develop debate clubs at the school level to expand the practice of debate across the country. This will lead to a generation that respects dissent.
The minister said, 'In the case of the rational people we want to create, this kind of constructive debate can play a helpful role.'
At the event, the Education Minister was awarded the NDF Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contribution to debate.
After the inauguration ceremony, a policy debate was held with the participation of Education Minister, Vice-Chancellors of four universities, columnist Subhash Singh Roy and Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain.
The Chairman of the University Grants Commission was present among others at the event. Kazi Shahidullah, BKash CEO Kamal Qadir, media personality Faridur Reza Sagar, NDF President AKM Shoaib and others.
