Last January, 585 people were killed and 899 people were injured in 593 road accidents. At the same time, 46 people were killed and 78 people were injured in 44 accidents on the railways.

These facts have come out in the accident monitoring report of the Accident Monitoring Cell of Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association on Saturday (February 4). This report has been prepared by monitoring the news of road, rail and sea accidents published in various national, regional and online newspapers of the country. 

According to the report, compared to January 2022, road accidents increased by 5.3 percent and injured by 10.04 percent in the month of January 2020. However, the number of deaths decreased by 4.6 percent.

206 drivers, 109 pedestrians, 35 transport workers, 53 students, 10 teachers, 13 law enforcement personnel, 115 women, 62 children, five children, journalist, one brave freedom fighter, two A lawyer and three engineers and 14 political party leaders have been identified.

Out of these 39 members of the law and order forces were killed, including six policemen, 31 BGB members and two Ansar members. Also 153 drivers, 84 pedestrians, 80 women, 46 children, 46 students, 26 transport workers, one journalist, 9 teachers, two engineers, two lawyers and eight leaders and workers of different political parties.

A total of 816 vehicles were identified in organized accidents during this period, of which 12.5 percent were buses, 24.75 percent were trucks, pickups, covered vans and lorries, 5.02 percent were cars, jeeps-microbuses, 5.88 percent were CNG-powered autorickshaws, 27.32 percent were motorcycles, 14 58 percent of battery operated rickshaws and easy bikes, 9.92 percent of Nachiman-Kariman-Mahindra-Tractor and Laguna have been affected by road accidents. 

51.60 percent of the total accidents organized were pedestrian collisions, 22.25 percent were head-on collisions, 12.47 percent were lost in ditches, 11.97 percent were miscellaneous, 0.67 percent were wheel-rolling and 1.01 percent were train-vehicle collisions. Happens.

An analysis of the types of accidents showed that 29.51 percent of the total accidents occurred this year on national highways, 38.61 percent on regional highways and 24.45 percent on feeder roads. Also, 5.22 percent of total accidents occurred in Dhaka city, 1.18 percent in Chittagong city and 1.01 percent occurred at railway crossings.

In the outgoing month of January, road accidents were the most organized on January 17, 20 people were killed and 31 injured in 35 road accidents on this day. The lowest number of road accidents was recorded on January 2, with 12 road accidents resulting in 10 deaths and 21 injuries. The highest death toll in a single day in road accidents was on January 11, 30 people were killed and 17 injured in 26 road accidents on this day. The most injured in road accidents was on January 5, 16 people were killed and 71 injured in 18 road accidents on this day.
