Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are meeting soon. This meeting is mainly about the issues of 2022. The meeting will take place in December, Reuters reported citing Russian business daily Vedomosti.
According to Reuters, the meeting between the two leaders on Tuesday (December 13) was confirmed in a report by Vedomosti. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Vedomosti that the schedule and agenda of the meeting are correct. Only the official announcement remains.
Citing a source in the administration of the Russian president who did not want to be named in the media, it was said that the meeting will be held directly between them. He also said that the details of the meeting are being prepared. After the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Russia has become closer with China.
Earlier, after the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, the 1st President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Uzbekistan.
Western relations with Russia have hit rock bottom over the Ukraine war. On the other hand, tensions between China and the US have increased over the Taiwan issue. In such a situation, there are reports of these two top leaders sitting in a direct meeting.
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not hold a year-end news conference on the overall situation. The Kremlin confirmed that the traditional press conference was not held this time, which started when the president took office.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday (Dec 12) that the press conference is not taking place before the start of the new year. But he noted that President Putin regularly speaks to the media during his foreign trips.
