Crimes against humanity: 5 sentenced today

The International Criminal Tribunal will announce the verdict today regarding the five people from Trishal in Mymensingh in the case of crimes against humanity during the liberation war.
On Monday (February 20), the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Md. A three-member tribunal headed by Shahinur Islam will announce the verdict. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Abu Ahmed Jamadar and Justice KM Hafizul Alam.
Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon, Rezia Sultana Chaman and barrister Tapas Kanti Ball were present at the hearing of the state party earlier in the court. Lawyers Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, Mizanul Islam and Gazi MH Tamim were for the accused.

On May 19, 2015, Rahima Khatun, wife of freedom fighter Abdur Rahman, filed the case. After two years of investigation, the investigating officer submitted a report to the tribunal against eight people. Later, an arrest warrant was issued against the accused. The tribunal ordered the trial of this case to begin on May 27, 2019.
Of the eight accused in the case, three died while incarcerated. They are MA Hannan and his son Rafiq Sajjad and Mizanur Rahman Montu. The verdict on the remaining five will be announced today.
