Ambassador Muhith is the Vice-Chairman of the UN Peacebuilding Commission
Mohammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations, has been unanimously elected as the Vice-Chairman of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2023. Before this, he served as the chairman of the commission in 2022.

After the end of Bangladesh's term as chairman, the members of the commission elected Croatia as the chairman of the commission for 2023 and Bangladesh and Germany as vice-chairmen.
Ambassador Muhith officially handed over the chairmanship of the Commission to Croatia on February 2 at the UN headquarters in New York.
At the event, the members of the commission praised Bangladesh for its outstanding leadership in the commission in 2022. They expressed gratitude to Bangladesh for the successful implementation of various programs designed for the Commission in 2022.

- During Bangladesh's presidency, the Commission has made significant progress in several important areas under its mandate. During this time, the scope of the commission has increased geographically. For the first time, several meetings of the Commission were held in East Timor, South Sudan and Central Asia. The Commission's consultative functions in the UN Security Council have been intensified. There has been considerable progress in the Commission's work in implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. The Commission's partnership with other financial institutions, including regional development banks, has subsequently increased.

Since independence, Bangladesh has gradually emerged as an important partner of the United Nations. As the highest peacekeeping country in the world, Bangladesh is making an important contribution to maintaining world peace.
Referring to this success of Bangladesh, Ambassador Muhith reiterated his commitment to continue Bangladesh's full support in the work of the Commission in the coming days.
The PBC was established in 2005 with 31 members, including members elected from the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Bangladesh has been working as a member of PBC since 2005. Earlier, Bangladesh served as the President of the Commission in 2012 and Vice-President of the Commission in 2015.
